Description
The Wilmot monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 6 meters southwest of the tower of the Church of St. Ethelbert, south of the path. It dates from the late 18th century and is made of stone. The tomb features a flat lid with a moulded edge. The ends include one expanded rectangular baluster with fluting and gadrooning. The sides have a central oval panel with a raised, carved rim intended for an inscription, with stylised flowers and chains in the corners. There are tall fielded panels on either side, with the outer ends of the balusters being thin. The monument has a moulded plinth and displays good lettering, including some upper case and mixed styles, commemorating Thomas Wilmot, who died in 1780, along with some later inscriptions. The last word of the first inscription features copper-plate scrolling.
