Description
This is a pair of cottages located in Upper Slaughter. They date from the late 17th century and the mid-19th century. The north-east cottage, known as Kynetonhayes, is constructed of rubble with a roof of Cotswold stone and concrete tiles. It has two brick and one ashlar chimney, and C20 roof lights. It has two windows: two-light and three-light windows with drips above the ground-floor openings and a cornice above the first-floor openings. The stonework indicates that the upper windows were originally set within Cotswold gables, and the eaves were presumably raised in the early to mid-19th century. The south-west cottage, Keynstons Hay, is also of rubble construction with a roof of Cotswold stone and concrete tiles. It has four windows without drips, and quoins to the right-hand side. Deeds suggest origins as early as the 1580s, although the cottages may well date to the 18th century.
