Description

This is a late 18th-century threshing barn with adjoining loose box and stables. The barn is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone with dressed cream-coloured quoins. It has a corrugated asbestos roof, while the loose box has a corrugated iron roof and the stable block a roof of stone slate.

The rectangular barn features a central, two-storey gabled porch projecting on the west side. The porch originally had a two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned window to the first floor, which served as a granary, but the mullion has since been removed. A low, double-width doorway sits below the window, both with timber lintels. A high, double-width doorway with a timber lintel is positioned opposite. Square ventilation holes are present in the side walls, and owl holes are located near the apexes of the gable ends. The gables are flat and have roll-cross saddles.

The stable block is a single-storey structure with a loft. The loose box has a single-width doorway, while the main stable section has a central single-width doorway within a dressed stone surround, flanked by two-light casements also with dressed stone surrounds. Square ventilation holes are located in the loft. Stone steps lead up to the left gable end to a plank door giving access to the loft.

Inside the barn are five bays with the original collar and tie beam trusses and double butt purlins. The interior of the granary has been plastered. The building occupies a prominent position on the brow of a hill, overlooking Little Rissington village.
