Description
This is an early 19th century detached cottage and wash house in Little Rissington. The main body of the cottage is constructed of coursed squared and finely dressed limestone, with a stone slate roof. A slate roof covers the wash house. Ashlar and artificial stone stacks rise from the main body, while a brick stack serves the wash house. The rectangular main body has extensions at both gable ends. The wash house is set at a right angle to the right-hand gable extension.
The front of the main cottage has a three-window facade, including a matching extension to the right. It features two 4-light stone mullioned windows with stone slab roofs on the ground floor, a single 2-light stone mullioned casement in the right gable extension, and two 3-light and one 2-light stone mullioned casements on the first floor. All casements on the main body have horizontal glazing bars. A central 19th century six-panel door is flanked by a flat-chamfered surround and a continuous hoodmould. To the right, a 19th century plank door with a single glazed panel provides access to an extension that previously functioned as a store with a granary above. Two-light casements are located on the first floor of the store extension. A double-width entrance, inserted in the 20th century with a timber lintel, is also on the ground floor. The single-storey wash house has a part-glazed 4-panel door and a 2-light wooden casement. Gable-end and axial stacks are present. Flat coping is visible at the left gable end of the main body. The interior has not been inspected.
