Description

Church Farmhouse is a mid-17th century farmhouse, enlarged in the later 17th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with dressed stone quoins, and has a stone slate roof. There are stone end stacks, one to the left with a brick flue, probable original end stone stacks now adjoining the end of a higher later section, also with a brick flue, and a stone end stack to the south end of the right-hand wing with a brick flue. The plan is in an 'L' shape, with what appears to be an older wing to the right. The main wing is of two storeys and an attic.

The main section has four windows; originally these had stone mullions and transoms, now replaced with leaded long paired wooden casements, except for the third bay, which is blind with a painted trompe l'oeil window. The ground floor has three four-pane sashes in similar moulded frames with a continuous dripmould above. A brick porch with stone quoins, likely of the 19th century, conceals the internal angle and original doorway. There are two small gabled dormers with twin casements. The right-hand wing has leaded wooden casements, some with original timber lintels, others renewed.

The north gable end of this wing features a two, three, and four-light stone-mullioned window stacked vertically, with square hoodmoulds; the original two-light window has been replaced. The east side of the right-hand wing also retains some stone mullioned windows. A small, single-storey wing with a half-hipped roof is located on the south gable end. The interior has not been inspected.
