Description
This description is for a pair of gatepiers and iron gates, along with an adjoining curved stone wall, located at the main north entrance to Hatherop Castle School. The structures date from the mid-19th century.
The wall is constructed of ashlar stone and features moulded coping, with small plain end piers that stand about 1.5 meters high. The wall curves inward on both sides for approximately 17 meters towards the main gatepiers and steps up twice on the right side to match the gradient of the road, starting from a plain end pier that is about 1.7 meters high.
The main gatepiers are square in shape, topped with a moulded cornice and a stone ball finial, reaching a total height of about 2.5 meters. The pair of wrought iron gates features spearhead railings that curve down to the center, with large letters "H" and "C" displayed on each gate.
