Description
The Ox House is a house with a restaurant located in Northleach, dating from the mid-17th century to the mid-18th century. It is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone with a rendered facade. The building features a slate roof, with concrete tiles at the rear, and has a complex plan consisting of two parallel ranges, with the earliest range situated at the back, and a large possibly 17th-century store at right angles to the rear.
The facade is three stories high with two windows, and gables above the first-floor windows. There is a central 20th-century part-glazed front door flanked by plate glass windows. Ball finials are located at the upper right and left corners. The first and second floors have four-pane sash windows. The 17th-century range at the rear has two stories with stone-mullioned casements that feature two, three, and four lights, all with stopped hoods. Additionally, there is a three-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casement in the gable end of the large store at the rear. The gable ends have flat coping and cross saddles, and there are gable end stacks, one of which has a moulded capping.
Inside, there are tie beams with deep flat chamfers, although the interior has not been fully inspected.
