Description

Doctors Commons is a house in a row, situated in Northleach. The original core of the building dates back to the 16th century, although the facade was rebuilt and extensions were added to the rear around 1927. It is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, with a stone slate roof and ashlar stacks. The main body of the house is L-shaped, with later extensions at the rear.

The front facade is two-and-a-half storeys and has five windows. It features five two-light stone-mullioned casement windows with gables above the first floor. Two five-light stone-mullioned canted bays with transoms are present on the ground floor. The roof of the bay on the far right extends leftwards to form a canopy over a 20th-century four-panel door. A three-light stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood sits to the left of the door, while a 20th-century panelled garage door is on the far left. There is also a 20th-century door with glazing bars on the right-hand side. A three-light stone-mullioned casement from the 16th century is located to the left, characterised by four-centred arched heads, carved spandrels, and a hood retaining one square stop, which is now partially covered by a later lean-to at the rear. A number of matching two and three-light windows were added to the rear around 1927, along with a single light window featuring a Tudor-arched head and carved spandrels.

Inside, there are two flat-chamfered four-centred arched stone doorways, a 17th-century staircase with splat balusters, and possibly reused carved 17th-century cupboard doors.
