Description

The Old Woolhouse is a detached house and restaurant situated on the corner of the Market Place. It dates from the mid-17th to early 18th century, constructed in several phases. The building is of coursed squared and dressed limestone, with large dressed quoins. A 20th-century stone stack mimics ashlar. The plan is basically rectangular, with two later extensions set at right angles to the main body.

The main gable end has a two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casement window on the second floor, a similar window to the first floor, and a 20th-century plate glass window on the ground floor. A 20th-century plank door with fillets is also present on the ground floor, alongside a plate glass window and a continuous concrete lintel to a single-storey extension to the left.

The left-hand return displays two two-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods to the first floor. A three-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casement is located above to the left, also with a stopped hood. The ground floor has two large, top-opening casements with a stopped hood above the right-hand window, and a 20th-century stopped hood above the left-hand window. Between these windows stands a 19th-century four-panel door within a basket-headed surround. Further to the left is a 20th-century door and a plate glass window. An axial stack is visible. The interior has not been inspected.
