Description
The New Bridge over the River Windrush, located on the boundary of the parishes of Clapton-on-the-Hill, Sherborne, and Great Rissington, was likely built around 1806. It is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone. The bridge features a single four-centred arched span with a moulded hood, and its parapet curves forward on either side. Triangular buttresses are present on the bridge abutment, which have weathered copings. The parapet ends in square piers topped with stepped pyramidal capping, and it has saddleback coping. This bridge shares a similar style with another bridge located to the south-west of Bourton-on-the-Water, which is on the boundary of the civil parishes of Cold Aston, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Lower Slaughter.
