Description

Field Cottage is a house on the end of a row, dating to the mid-to-late 17th century, with an early 20th-century addition. It is constructed of random rubble limestone, with a chimney of rubble and brick, and a stone slate roof. The two-storey front has two half-gables. The ground floor has a 2-window arrangement with 3-light recessed, chamfered mullioned casements, each with a hoodmould; the gables have 2-light mullioned casements. A central doorway has a timber lintel and plank door, and a stair light is located above and to the left, with a small casement window. A single ridge-mounted chimney denotes the original west end of the building. The gable and section to the right are early 20th-century additions. The interior has not been inspected. An illustration of the building prior to the later addition appears in W.G. Davie and E.G. Dawber’s “Old Cottages in the Cotswold District” from 1905.
