Description

Lower Brook House, a hotel and restaurant, dates to circa 1700 and has been altered since. It is built of coursed and squared rubble with a Cotswold stone roof, coped verges, and modern chimneys. The building has five modern gabled dormers. The front has five windows, most of which are 2-light windows with stone mullions. The left-hand windows are glazing bar sashes in architraves, and there is a half-glazed door in the centre.

The north front is two storeys high, with four ranges of 2-light mullion windows on the first floor, although only one survives on the ground floor. A lower, projecting gabled extension to the left conceals a bay. A glazed entrance is located in an angle with this extension. A lean-to porch is situated to the right of centre.

Despite later modernisation, the building retains group value and is listed due to its prominent position in Lower Street.
