Description
The Manor House is a Grade II* listed building located immediately south of the Church in Blockley. This site was once the medieval summer palace of the Bishops of Worcester. The house was rebuilt before 1539 and later remodeled in the 18th century. It is irregular in shape, featuring two storeys and attics, constructed from coursed rubble with stone tile roofs and coped verges, along with numerous chimneys.
The facade has a window arrangement of 3:1:2:1:2, with the central two windows flanked by gabled projections, and it is two windows deep. Most of the windows are glazing bar sash windows, while the right-hand gable features mullioned windows. A Tudor arch doorway with carved spandrels is located in the link section between the gables, and there is another doorway to the right of the right-hand gable, which has six panels and is set in a cast-iron porch.
Inside, there is a staircase in the left-hand gable, which has turned balusters and a moulded handrail typical of the late 17th century.
