Description
This is an altar tomb located about 7 meters southwest of the doorway in the churchyard of Avening Baptist Chapel. It is probably from the early 19th century, with the earliest decipherable date being 1835. The tomb is made of limestone and features a square shape with a moulded capping and plinth. There are inscription panels on all sides, oval on the east and west, surrounded by carvings, and a carved head on the north side. Unfortunately, all inscriptions are partially or completely obliterated. On top of the tomb, there is a carved finial on a square base. The stonework is badly eroded in the upper parts, as noted during a survey in August 1984.
