Description
This is a barn located at Dunsden Farm, with the right end possibly dating back to the 17th century. The left end features a tie beam dated and initialled "F.H. 1718," indicating that the entire roof was re-roofed at this time, with further alterations made in the 19th century. The barn has a long rectangular plan and is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, brick, and weatherboarding, topped with a limestone slate roof. It is a single-storey structure with a stable door on the far left and a window to the right. The lower half of the wall to the right of the window is made of stone, with brick piers above and horizontal boarding infill between the piers. The boarding extends down in two bays, with plank doors inserted. The barn features two 'X' shaped and two 'S' shaped tie plates, and the gable coping is flat limestone with roll-cross saddles. Inside, there are five bays with a tie beam supported by posts at the far right and left, leading to the principal rafter, with struts between the posts reaching up to the principal rafter at the junction with bowed timbers that form a collar.
