Description

Westend Farmhouse is a large farmhouse dating to the late 16th and early 17th centuries, with later additions likely from the early 18th century. The building is constructed of random coursed rubble stone and has a stone slate roof with stone stacks, including a large external stack on the west side. It has a probable through passage plan, forming a T-shape with a main range to the west and later extensions to the east and north. The farmhouse is predominantly two storeys and has an attic.

The south front features three gables of equal size. A casement window of two lights is located at the top of the central gable, with a blocked single light to the right. Above are three-light windows on the first floor, with projecting ends to the beams, each with a gabled hood above the central window. The ground floor has three-light windows with leaded casements, and a 19th-century blue-brick porch sits between the central and right-hand gables. The north side also has three gables, with the left-hand gable being smaller and not a cross gable to the rear. Blocked openings with timber lintels are present in all gables. The central gable has a three-light wooden casement on the first floor and a two-light window below, both with timber lintels. Flanking beams project, with raking hoods at eaves level and a gabled hood to the left of the first-floor window. A 20th-century corner porch provides access to an 18th-century six-panel door, with the top two panels glazed and the remainder fielded. It may have originally been timber-framed, but the interior is not accessible.
