Description

The Church of St David, located on Church Street, was largely rebuilt in 1858 as a hall church featuring three naves in the Decorated style. The tower was added in 1861, as noted on a tablet within the tower, and was designed by the architects Poulton and Woodman of Reading. The old vestry, dating back to 1790, has been repurposed as a kitchen. In 1892, the chancel and south aisle were extended by E H Lingen Barker. The church is constructed of golden ashlar with tiled roofs and consists of five bays, with a three-bay chancel that includes a vestry and chapel on either side.

The west tower is muscular and comprises four stages, featuring a door, window, clock, and belfry, along with chamfered set-offs and stepped corner buttresses that are set back at the base. The corners are chamfered and adorned with crockets, while the Gothic parapet is topped with corner pinnacles. The stone octagonal spire includes lucarnes, and there is a stair-turret on the southeast side with a trefoil-headed door.

Inside, the font and pulpit, both dating from around 1860, exhibit a muscular design, and the chancel screen was added in 1910 by Bligh Bond. The east windows of the aisles and all the chancel windows are stained glass, with the east window created by Lavers and Westlake in 1858. The vestry door features notable ironwork, and there are two marble memorials on the west wall from 1887 and 1845.
