Description

This is a late 19th-century stable block, likely dating to around 1880, with a coach house probably built around 1850. The stable block was restored at an unknown date. It is constructed of ashlar stone with quoins and has a flat band slate roof. The building has two storeys and is arranged in nine bays, with a 1-3-1-3-1 bay configuration. The outer bays feature triangular pediments, while the central bay has a segmented pediment. A central rusticated archway is flanked by a window above. All the windows are stone mullioned casement windows with two lights. Two tall stacks are located in the center of the roof.

Attached at a right angle to the east end is a four-bay coach house, also constructed of ashlar. This section features four tall round-headed arches with keyed heads and a cornice, topped by a parapet. It has pairs of panelled doors and blind panelled fanlights above. The south wall is of ashlar, while the rear wall is brick. The roof is not visible. A rusticated gate pier with a cap is located at the southwest corner of the coach house, relating to a separate listed item.

While previously attributed to the early 17th century, and with suggestions that Webb was the architect, the style of stonework makes this dating and attribution unlikely.
