Description
This barn, located approximately 150 meters north of Cassey Compton House, dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof, featuring a cross-shaped plan. The barn has a flat-chamfered plinth and projecting gabled porches on the east and west sides, each with double width openings and ventilation slits near the apex of the porch gables in the side walls and gable ends. There are single width lateral doors on the west side that are now blocked, as well as a blocked single width door in the east wall. The south gable end has two doorways to the basement, which are also blocked. The gable ends have stepped coping and roll-cross saddles. Inside, the barn has seven bays with original collar and tie beam trusses supported by double butt purlins, and artificial stone piers that support the ends of the tie beams.
