Description
27 and 29 New Church Street are a pair of private houses known as The Old School Houses, built in the mid-19th century. They are reputed to be designed by I. W. Hugell. The houses are constructed from coursed and dressed stone and feature a steep Cotswold stone slate roof with two very large stepped stone chimneys. The building is a single range with a large cross gable on the left side and has two storeys plus an attic. The windows are scattered, with a total of four. The first floor includes one and two-light plain stone mullioned windows, while the ground floor and the first floor of the gable bay to the left have two and three-light trefoil-headed stone mullioned windows with inward-splaying lintels. Each house has a boarded door set beneath a shallow triangular arch. These houses are included for their group value with the Church of St. Saviour.
