Description
The Fox and Rose Cottage is an inn and attached cottage dating from the late 17th century to the early 18th century, with some 18th-century elements. It is constructed of coursed, squared, and dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof. The building features a rectangular main body from the 17th century, which includes a square block at the front and a gabled projection at the rear. Attached to the right is Rose Cottage, which has gabled extensions at the back and is considered part of the same build.
The main body is two storeys high with an attic, which is illuminated by two 2-light roof dormers that have glazing bars. The single-bay facade is highlighted by a 3-light stone-mullioned casement window with stopped hoods, and there is a 20th-century double plank door located lower right within a 'Tudor'-arched surround. The 18th-century extension to the right features four windows with 2-light casements that have horizontal glazing bars and some leaded panes that are original. All 18th-century windows have plain surrounds with keystones. Rose Cottage has a 19th-century six-panel door, with the upper panels being glazed. The interior has not been inspected.
