Description
This description covers a pair of chest tombs located about 18 meters east of the south-east chancel buttress in the churchyard of the Church of St. Lawrence. The tomb to the north belongs to William Hall, who died in 1837, while the tomb to the south is for Thomas Hall, dating from the early 19th century. Both tombs are made of limestone and feature a moulded plinth and capping on a tall base with a plain frieze. They have a three-stepped tent top with curved edges and roll moulding along the top. The ends of the tombs are plain, with incised rectangular panels that have a projecting semi-circular section at the top. The side panels are slightly fielded, with flanking strips that are fluted on the tomb of William Hall and plain on that of Thomas Hall. At the time of the survey in March 1985, the tomb of Thomas Hall was partially overgrown.
