Description

The Lawn is a detached house dating to the late 17th and early 18th centuries, with extensions added in the mid-to-late 20th century. The main part of the house has a rectangular plan, with later extensions to both gable ends and at the rear, which are not considered to be of special interest. The front facade is ashlar, while the rest of the building is constructed of coursed squared and finely dressed limestone, as are the 20th-century extensions.

The main body of the house is two storeys and has an attic, with two 20th-century hipped dormers providing light. The symmetrical, three-windowed facade features 2-light stone-mullioned casement windows with stopped hoods. A central 20th-century glazed door is set within a flat-chamfered segmental-headed surround. A band runs between the ground floor and first floor windows and again above the first floor, connecting to pilasters at the corners of the main body. To the right is a single-storey flat-roofed 20th-century extension with a 4-light stone-mullioned casement, featuring a central king mullion and stopped hood. A one-and-a-half-storey extension is to the left, containing a 3-light stone-mullioned casement with a stopped hood on the ground floor and two 2-light 20th-century eaves dormers above. A part-glazed door is also present. Two plank garage doors are located to the left. All windows, including those in the extensions, contain leaded panes. The building has coped gables, and gable-end stacks with skirtings and moulded cappings. Inside, a spine beam is visible on the ground floor.
