Description

SOUTHROP SOUTHROP VILLAGE SP 1903-2003 14/223 The Lodge 23.1.52 II Former vicarage, now detached house. Early C19. Coursed rubble limestone; ashlar chimneys; stone slate roof. Two-storey with attic; double pile plan. South front: projecting gabled part to right has central 12-pane and flanking 8-pane sashes to ground and upper floors; tile-hanging to gable. Two-window fenestration to left, all 16-pane sashes except for glazed doors to right. Single-storey part to right of gable, with two 12-pane sashes. Plain upper floor level band. Gable-mounted ashlar chimneys with plain caps. West end: 2 gables. Central doorway; Tudor arch to parapet gabled porch. Various 12-pane sashes. Sash fenestration to north side, mix of 12 and 16-pane. Central gabled roof dormer; raking dormer to right. Interior not inspected. The home of John Keble during his period as curate in Southrop, 1823-5. (D.Verey, Gloucestershire: The Cotswolds, 1979)
