Description
The Lodge is a former vicarage that has been converted into a detached house, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble limestone with ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof. The building is two stories tall with an attic and features a double pile plan.
The south front has a projecting gabled section on the right, which includes a central 12-pane sash window flanked by 8-pane sashes on both the ground and upper floors, with tile-hanging on the gable. To the left, there is a two-window arrangement with 16-pane sashes, except for the glazed doors on the right. There is a single-storey section to the right of the gable, which has two 12-pane sashes. A plain band marks the upper floor level, and there are gable-mounted ashlar chimneys with plain caps.
The west end of the building features two gables and a central doorway leading to a parapet gabled porch with a Tudor arch. The windows here include various 12-pane sashes. The north side has sash windows as well, with a mix of 12 and 16-pane styles, along with a central gabled roof dormer and a raking dormer to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
This building was the home of John Keble during his time as curate in Southrop from 1823 to 1825.
