Description
The garden wall with an archway located to the southeast of The Pines dates from the mid-17th century. It is constructed of ashlar limestone with a brick wall that has random rubble backing. The arch features a round shape with a triple keystone, where the keystones are set at 45 degrees, and it has heavy imposts. The jambs are adorned with alternating rusticated quoins. Above the arch, the plain stone coping of the wall projects forward. This section of the wall is the most significant remaining part of a complete walled garden, as other sections have partially collapsed. The wall is associated with a house originally called The Greys, which was renamed The Pines after the main part of the building was demolished.
