Description
The Old School House is a cottage dating from the 18th century, with significant alterations and rebuilding in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone, with the right wall featuring alternating yellow and grey courses that indicate rebuilding. The roof is made of limestone slate, and there is an ashlar stack with limestone gable end coping. The building has a rectangular lobby entrance plan and its facade is positioned at right angles to the road.
It is two storeys high with a garret and has irregular fenestration. On the ground floor to the left, there are three-light stone-mullioned casements, and to the right, there is a part-glazed front door set in a flat-chamfered surround. To the far right, there is a 20th-century two-light metal casement. The gable end facing the road features two and three-light stone-mullioned windows, one of which has a stopped hood. A former bread oven projects from the rear wall. The central axial twin-flue ashlar stack has a moulded capping and skirting, and the flat gable end coping is adorned with roll-cross saddles. The interior has not been inspected.
