Description

Whalley Farm is a detached farmhouse that dates from the 17th century, 18th century, and early 20th century. The 17th and 18th century sections are built from coursed squared and dressed limestone, while the 19th century part features rock-faced limestone. The roof is made of stone slate. The original 17th century core has a rectangular plan with a central projecting back stair. To the left gable end, there is a 'T'-shaped extension from the 18th century, and an early 20th century extension is located in the angle created between the 17th and 18th century parts. A 20th century lean-to conservatory is at the forward-facing gable end of the 18th century part, but it is not of special interest.

The 17th century section has two storeys and an attic, which is lit by a 20th century garret light. A single bay of the former facade is visible to the right of the 20th century extension, featuring 2-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements on the ground and first floors, with a stopped hood over the ground floor window. There is a 20th century door with glazing bars set within a 'Tudor'-arched surround in a 20th century lean-to porch on the left. The early 20th century extension has two storeys, with the upper floor lit by half dormers, and all windows are 12-pane sashes with horns. The 18th century extension also has two storeys and an attic, which is lit by two roof dormers with hung tiles. The ground and first floors have two and three-light stone-mullioned casements. The 18th century part features flat gable end coping, and the right gable end of the 17th century part has gable end stacks, one of which has moulded capping. The interior has not been inspected.
