Description

Bouthrop House is a large detached house located in Eastleach Martin. It was built in the mid to late 17th century and was rebuilt in the early 18th century, with an addition made around 1820. The house features ashlar limestone and timber framing at the rear, which has been partly rebuilt in random rubble. It has ashlar chimneys and roofs made of Welsh and stone slate.

The main block is two stories high and includes a cellar, along with a two-story north range that connects at the east end. The south front has a five-window arrangement, grouped as 2:1:2, with all 12-pane sash windows that have plain keyed architraves. There is a plain plinth and a band at the upper floor level, along with alternating chamfered quoins. The central doorway features a moulded two-panel door and a porch with a pediment supported by plain Doric columns and matching pilasters. The house has projecting eaves and a low-pitched hipped roof, with central eaves-mounted chimneys at the ends of the south range.

On the north side, the timber-framed range has mostly been refaced in random rubble and includes various casement windows, one of which is leaded on the upper floor. The east gable end of this range has a projecting chimney and part of the roof truss is exposed, with two single-light casements on the ground floor. The west end has an outbuilding range that conceals a round-ended bread oven.

Inside, the early 19th-century block features Regency fireplaces and architraves, along with a staircase that has stick balusters. There is a large Tudor arched fireplace in the north range, and a room on the upper floor at the west end has some small framing visible internally.
