Description
The gates, gate piers, and overthrow at the entrance to the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene date from the 18th and 19th centuries. The gate piers are designed in a Gothic style from the 18th century and are linked by an overthrow dated 1897. They are made of limestone and feature iron gates. The square gate piers have sunken trefoil-headed panels and pyramidal capping stones. The double gates are decorated with alternating loop and spear-head designs. The wrought iron overthrow includes scroll decoration and bears the dates 1837 and 1897 in gold leaf, flanking a central lantern topped with a crown. This wrought iron overthrow commemorates Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.
