Description
Stable Cottage at Dower House is a large stable block that includes a cottage and coaching accommodation, built in the late 19th century. It is constructed from coursed and dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features a hipped tile roof. The building has large stone ridge stacks at the south end, which have an offset and moulded cornice.
The structure is a large rectangular block with an open central courtyard, consisting of a single storey and an attic with hipped dormers towards the south end. The south side showcases a prominent central cross gable, topped with a weathervane and featuring a slit vent and a two-light stone mullion window. There is also a large segmental carriage arch with a keystone, which houses the original double doors. Flanking this arch are two and three-light stone mullion casements set in flush stone frames.
The south-east corner of the building is curved, supported by decorative corbelling that carries the corner hip. The east side has a smaller cross gable with loft doors. Both the east and west sides feature lunette windows with radial glazing on the exterior, complemented by a large flush stone band below. Inside, there are loose boxes on the west side, carriage arches on the north and part of the east side, and almost all original doors remain intact.
