Description

Evenlode Place is a former rectory that has been converted into a detached house. It dates from the 18th to early 19th century, with later additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. The main structure, which is set away from the garden front, suggests origins in the 18th century or the reuse of stone. The facade at the rear is made of ashlar limestone, while the rest of the building features coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a slate roof and ashlar stacks.

The layout, viewed from the garden, consists of a rectangular main body with a projecting porch at the rear. To the left is a flat-roofed extension from the 20th century, while a later 19th-century extension is set back to the right of the main body. A 20th-century conservatory projects forward on the left side. The main facade is symmetrical, featuring a 2:1:2 arrangement of windows, all of which are 12-pane sashes. The central bay is flanked by pilasters, with similar pilasters at the corners. Above the central bay, there is a cartouche from the parapet displaying a sheaf of corn at the center, flanked by 'S' scrolls. The entrance consists of a glazed double door with a light above.

Facing the road, the facade has three storeys and features eight windows; the ground and first floors have 12-pane sashes, while the second floor has 6-pane sashes. The central projecting porch has a part-glazed 20th-century door with glazing bars and is adorned with dentil decoration around the front and sides. Above the porch, there is a cartouche similar to the one on the garden front, but without the sheaf of corn. The main body has a parallel ridge roof, while the later 19th-century extension has a double-pitch roof. The 20th-century extension and projecting porch have flat roofs, and there are gable-end stacks at the ridge ends of the main body. The interior has not been inspected.
