Description
The Grange is a former vicarage, now a house, built in 1836 or 1837 with an extension added to the rear in 1860. It is constructed of ashlar limestone and has a grey slate roof with a flat, coped gable and ball-point finials. The building features projecting stacks from the gable ends that flank the central entrance, with three flues on the left and two diagonal flues on the right. The main block has a wing that is set back from the facade on the right.
The main body of the house is two storeys high and has a triple-gabled facade. The central gabled section has two windows, with flanking gable ends that project slightly. The windows are 19th-century, two-light casements with glazing bars, and there are hood moulds above that continue to form a string course. The central porch is buttressed and has an unpainted double door with decorative hinges set in a pointed arched surround, with single lights featuring cusped heads in the side walls of the porch.
Inside, the ground floor porch has a coloured, geometric tile floor. There is an ornate stone fireplace from 1860, which is supported by round marble columns with foliate limestone capitals. Above the fireplace are enamelled roundels depicting the Hornby arms, the vicar of 1860, and the arms of the Bishop of Gloucester.
