Description
Top Farmhouse is a house that was formerly a farmhouse, dating from the 17th century, with a 19th-century outshut on the left and a 20th-century extension at the rear, which is not of special interest. The main structure is built of squared limestone and features a short section of a projecting plinth with a moulded top along the right gable end wall. The main body has an artificial stone roof, while the 19th-century outshut has a slate roof.
The main body consists of two rooms, one room deep, and originally included a cross passage. There is a blocked doorway onto the road, which now has a 20th-century casement window inserted, with a flat moulded hood above it and a stone step below. The facade, viewed from the road, is two storeys high and has two windows: one features two 3-light flat-chamfered stone-mullioned windows, while the other has a 3-light 19th-century casement window replacing the original mullions. The right gable end includes a fire window and a scratch sundial.
Inside, there are flagged floors and a large stone fireplace against the right wall, which has a bressumer and a seat to the right. The beams feature moulded stops, and there is a cellar beneath the 17th-century part of the house.
