Description
Stow Lodge Hotel, formerly the Rectory, is a building mostly from the 18th century, with some earlier elements. It has two storeys and attics, constructed of rubble with a Cotswold stone slate roof. The building features three hipped dormers and a parapet. It is designed in an L-shape to the south, with a gabled projecting pavilion on the left that retains a mullioned window with a drip mould. The main block has three windows adorned with cock-beads and keystones. A notable feature of the house is the diamond glazing of the windows, which are mostly casements. There is a modern porch on the left that conceals a Tudor arch doorway, which has a keystone, panelled reveals, cock-bead detailing, and an arched door. Inside, the hall includes a bolection fireplace and an early 18th-century staircase with three turned balusters per tread and carved strings. The full height angled bay to the north contains a small curved latrine shaft in the north-west corner.
