Description
This is a pair of adjacent headstones located immediately to the northeast of the Fowles memorial in the churchyard of the Church of St. Nicholas. They date from the early to mid-18th century and are made of limestone. The headstones feature elaborately carved surrounds, but the inscriptions have been completely obliterated and the panels are badly eroded.
On the left headstone, there are paired cherub heads surrounded by wings and garlands. The right headstone displays two separate large cherub heads, each with a pair of wings, and includes carving along the side of a moulded edge rectangular panel that has a semi-circular projection at the top. Behind these headstones, to the east, are a pair of tombstones that presumably mark actual graves, with some indecipherable lettering visible on the one to the right.
