Description

Cherington Park is a large country house built in 1740 for John Neale. It was enlarged in the 19th century but partially demolished in 1955 when the interior was largely remodeled. The house is constructed of rubble stone and features a Cotswold stone slate roof, along with a parapet and cornice on the east wing. It consists of two staggered parallel ranges connected by a linking unit. The southeast wing has a large projecting stack and a gable stack at the southern end. At the time of the survey in August 1984, the building was very overgrown with ivy.

The house has two storeys and an attic. The east front displays seven windows, which are 12-pane sashes with stone architraves and keystones, along with two small gabled dormers. There is a central doorway with a 20th-century door and three similar windows on each side. The Gothic wing to the north has two storeys with scattered fenestration, all featuring leaded lights and mostly two-light stone mullions. To the left, there is a three-light oriel window supported by two large rounded brackets above a carved Norman tympanum, likely taken from a church in the early 19th century. The linking unit includes a large double-height eight-light bay facing south with king mullions and a large partially projecting stepped stone stack on the north side.
