Description

Rockcliffe is a mid-19th century gentleman-farmer residence located in Upper Slaughter. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features long flat modillions along the cornice, with a blocking course leading to a pyramidal slate roof. It has two ashlar chimneys flanking a three-light dormer. The house is two storeys high with three bays, showing a slight central break. The windows are glazing bar sashes, with tripartite windows on the ground floor. The central entrance has a pedimented doorcase and an architrave leading to a traceried transom light above a six-panel door. There is a single-storey 20th-century extension to the right. The east and west returns of the building have four bays and a moulded cornice. A late 19th-century extension has been added to the north over a basement. Inside, the ground floor room in the south corner features a magnificent marble baroque fireplace from around 1900, while the north corner room contains a smaller carved baroque-style fireplace.
