Description
Two adjoining barns located to the north of Charlton Court Farm in the farmyard date from the early 17th century on the left and the 18th century on the right. They are built of rubble stone with quoins and have a Cotswold stone-slate roof.
The barn on the left has five bays, featuring braced collar beam trusses and two trenched purlins, with some timber renewed during repairs in the 1970s. It has a central opposed cart entry with timber boarded gables, square pitch-holes on the east and north walls, slit vents in other areas, and small square vents on the west wall.
The barn on the right has six bays, with collar and tie beam trusses and two trenched purlins, also with some renewed timbers. It features an opposed cart entry to the right, with a projecting gable only at the front, also timber boarded, and has a slightly lower roof level.
Between the two cart entries on the south side, there is a stone-tiled lean-to that provides access to the left-hand barn through a stone Tudor archway, which is likely a re-used feature, similar to several other re-used medieval elements found in the area. There is also a modern lean-to at the rear and in the far left-hand corner.
