Description

Great Larkhill Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse built on an earlier core, likely from the 17th century. The main part of the house is constructed of coursed stone with alternating flush quoins on a plinth, topped with a hipped stone slate roof and lateral stone stacks. A rendered core with a steep-pitched stone slate roof and stone stack is also present, alongside a C19 single-storey wing projecting from the right return. The original layout was L-shaped, with a two-storey wing added to the south front. The main range has three windows, with 12-pane sashes in plain stone architraves. The ground floor features tripartite sashes of 4/12/4 panes, flanking a central doorcase with an early 19th-century ashlar porch; this porch has a beaded surround to the outer opening, a moulded cornice, and a small central pediment with a shallow-pitched roof. The inner half-glazed door is thought to be original. Older sections of the house mostly have 12-pane sashes. Inside, most of the joinery in the later section is original, and there’s a 18th-century stick baluster staircase in the earlier part of the house.
