Description
Holy Trinity Church is an Anglican church located in Long Newnton. The church features a Perpendicular tower, likely dating from the 15th century, while the rest of the structure was rebuilt in 1841, with a north aisle added in 1870 by T.H. Wyatt. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and has a stone slate roof with coped verges, saddlestones, and cross finials, as well as artificial stone slate on the inner slopes.
The church includes a west tower, a nave with a large south aisle and south porch, and a small lean-to north aisle, along with a chancel that has a south vestry. The tower consists of three stages, resting on a moulded plinth and featuring stringcourses and stepped diagonal buttresses. A polygonal stair vice is located on the northeast side, and the tower is topped with a moulded embattled parapet adorned with crocketed corner pinnacles, a weathercock on the southwest corner, and a flagstaff. The second stage has small single lights with a sundial above on the south side, while the top stage has two-light louvred belfry openings that are deeply recessed.
The west face of the tower features a Tudor arch doorway and a three-light window above, both with hoodmoulds and decorative stops. The south aisle and nave are characterized by large single trefoil-head lancets. The gabled south porch has a decorative timber frame. Although the interior is not accessible, it is reported to contain an alabaster reredos by Powell, stained glass by Lavers, Barraud and Westlake, and numerous fine monuments, including ledger stones and wall tablets.
