Description
A row of six cottages located on Church Street, dating from the 18th century. The cottages are constructed from coursed, squared, and dressed limestone. The roofs are generally limestone slate, except for number 9 which has a tile roof with flat gable coping to the right gable end, and numbers 4 and 5 which have artificial stone roofs. Ashlar stacks rise from the left walls of numbers 4 and 5, while numbers 6 and 7 have 20th-century brick stacks. Number 8 has an ashlar stack with a moulded top, and number 9 has a rectangular brick stack from the left gable end, along with a 20th-century artificial stone stack from the right gable end.
The cottages are largely single-storey, with number 9 having an attic light provided by dormers. Number 4 features single windowed three- and four-light metal casements, and a 20th-century half-glazed plank door on the right. Number 5 has one windowed two- and three-light wooden casements with glazing bars; one light retains original leaded panes, and a 19th-century beaded plank door to the right. Number 6 has two windowed two- and three-light 20th-century metal windows, and a band separating the ground and first floors, with a central 20th-century half-glazed plank door. Number 7 has one windowed two- and three-light 19th-century metal casements, one light retaining 18th-century leaded panes, and a 19th-century part-glazed beaded plank door on the right. Number 8 has mixed 20th-century metal and wood casements, and a 20th-century part-glazed door to the left. Number 9 has two gabled dormers with 20th-century metal windows featuring horizontal glazing bars, and a 19th-century plank door.
