Description
The corn silo at Aycote Farm was built between 1920 and 1921 by Sidney Lane of Marsden Hill. It is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone and features a stone slate roof with a slate-hung upper storey. The silo has a circular plan with a small projection on the north side. On the south side, there is a plank door and three small shuttered openings that previously had external access via a ladder above. There is also a larger opening at the level of the slate hanging. The conical roof, which once had a weathervane, is now missing. Below the eaves, there were wooden ventilation louvres, most of which have been removed. This building was originally used to store vetch for silage, which was gradually filled from the bottom up through the shuttered openings, with the vetch being compacted by men walking on top of it.
