Description
Hobbs and Unidentified Monument is located about 2.5 meters south of the Gearing Monument in the churchyard of the Church of St. Lawrence. This structure consists of two chest tombs. One tomb is for William Hobbs, who died in the 1830s, while the other is unidentified and likely also belongs to a member of the Hobbs family, dating from the early 19th century. Both tombs are made of limestone and feature a moulded plinth and capping with a plain frieze. They have three-stepped tent tops, with the unidentified monument having curved edges. The end panels are plain and include an incised rectangular panel topped with a projecting semi-circular section and roundels in the spandrels. The side panels are slightly fielded and have flanking fluted strips. At the time of the survey in March 1985, the top of the unidentified monument was badly eroded and the entire structure was partially overgrown.
