Description
The surround to a water conduit and the wall opposite Hillside House in Little Rissington date from 1875, as indicated by a rectangular stone plaque on the conduit surround that is initialled 'D.E.F./1875'. The surround is made of cream coloured ashlar, while the wall is constructed of coursed squared and dressed orange coloured limestone, approximately 30 meters long, extending from the bus stop around the corner to Hill House. The conduit surround is set into the wall about 6 meters to the left of the gable end of Hill House and features a round-headed arched recess with imposts that continue around the back of the recess. The former water source at the rear has been removed, along with the tank below it, which has been replaced by a horizontal stone slab that acts like a bench. This structure is one of a pair of matching water sources, with the other located between Mullions and Bobble Farmhouse.
