Description
The monument to Margaret Parsons, located in the churchyard of the Church of St Nicholas, dates from 1695 and is a chest tomb made of limestone. The sides of the tomb are divided into three panels, each featuring a blind arch with keystones and imposts, and a single six-panel flower in each spandrel. Fluted pilasters with Ionic capitals and raised diamond-shaped decoration flank each panel. The central panel displays thistle decoration, while the flanking panels have foliate decoration. Above, there is beaded moulding with a miniature modillion cornice. The north side mirrors the south side but is badly eroded. There is an incised inscription in italic that is partly legible at both ends. Atop the tomb, there is a carved life-sized female figure dressed in a long gown, with traces of lettering on the pillow.
