Description
Crofton Lodge is a villa dating to circa 1820-1850. It is constructed of stucco over brick with a hipped slate roof, and features a reddish-brown brick wall with stone copings and iron balconies. The villa has two storeys on a basement, with two first-floor windows on the front elevation; the rear elevation is two and three storeys high. The first floor features 6/6 sash windows, while the ground floor has a tripartite window with 2/2 sashes, all set within tooled architraves with plain reveals. An entrance is positioned on the right-hand side, approached by a flight of steps leading to a four-panel door with side-lights and an overlight containing glazing bars. These are sheltered by a distyle Ionic porch with architrave, frieze and cornice. A basement window is a 6/6 sash, and a 20th-century door is also present. Wide eaves are featured, alongside a tall, off-centre ridge stack with a cornice. A conservatory extends from the left-hand side. The left return elevation displays 6/6 sash windows in tooled architraves, one of which is round-arched. The interior of the villa has not been inspected. A ground-floor balcony has a double-scroll motif. An approximately 5-metre long, 2-metre high brick wall with stone copings extends to the right, rising towards the house. A square pier, with panelled shafts, frieze and cornice topped with a peaked cap, stands at one end. A similar pier is located to the left and is adjoined by a fence (not included as part of the listing).
