Description

These are two semi-detached villas, built around 1820 to 1850, with later additions and alterations. They are constructed with stucco over brickwork, and have a concealed roof, along with lateral and right-end stacks featuring iron.

The villas are two storeys in height, with four first-floor windows and two lower-storey, narrow entrance bays recessed on either side. The central two-window range projects forward, supported by a shallow pediment. Decorative stucco detailing includes friezes and cornices above the ground-floor windows; those in the central section have corbels. All windows are set within tooled architraves. The first floor contains six-over-six sash windows, while the ground floor windows are two-over-two sashes, all in plain reveals with sills. The entrances have steps leading to four-panel doors, with the left-hand door being part-glazed, all framed by an architrave, frieze, and cornice. A low parapet with copings tops the building.

The interior was not inspected during the listing process.

A tent hood, supported by scrolled brackets, is a feature of the entrance on the right-hand side.

Painswick Road was created by Charles Baker to connect Cheltenham with Painswick, according to an Act of 1820.
