Description
Four headstones and a tomb chest are located 5 meters west of the south-west corner of the Church of St Mary in Charlton Kings. The site includes three late 17th century headstones and a Neoclassical altar-type tomb chest. The headstones, situated approximately 3 meters west of the church's south-west corner, feature distinct designs: one has a segmental-arched head with carved drapery, another displays a central cherub-head above an oval cartouche, and the third has an elliptically arched head with incised volutes. The headstone for Thomas Jeffes, who died in 1666, is located about 6 meters west of the church and features worn scroll embellishment. The altar tomb, positioned approximately 5 meters west of the church, rests on a shaped plinth and has an oval inscription tablet on each side, although the inscriptions are worn. It also features a frieze with partly-eroded scroll decoration, a moulded cornice, and a scalloped pyramidal cap.
