Description
Balcarras Court is a house built around 1850 for the Reverend JFS Gabb. It is constructed of pinkish-brown brick in Flemish bond, with red brick dressings and a slate roof, featuring an iron verandah. The building has a double-depth plan with a central hallway. It stands two storeys tall and has three first-floor windows on the main facade, which also includes a central entrance with a 20th-century part-glazed door. The windows are 8/8 sashes, with larger ones on the ground floor, all equipped with louvred shutters. The ground-floor verandah is supported by stick stanchions, and the roof is hipped with three stacks that have cornices.
Inside, there is an open-well staircase with rod-on-bobbin balusters and a wreathed handrail, along with another staircase visible at the rear. The left room features marble fireplaces, although the rest of the interior was not inspected. Historically, Reverend Gabb purchased Balcarras House in 1844 and constructed Balcarras Court on the site of the old stables.
