Description
Balcarras House is a house that dates from the late 16th century or early 17th century, which was remodeled after 1880 for General William Smith and his daughters, with 20th-century additions and alterations. The exterior is rendered and features a renewed tile roof. The building has two storeys with a basement and an attic at the centre and gables, and it has four first-floor windows.
On the south-east (garden) facade, there is an off-centre left entrance with a 20th-century part-glazed door. To the left are 20th-century French windows, and to the right is a 20th-century extension with windows that have glazing bars, alongside an 8/8 sash window. The first floor has 8/8 sashes in plain reveals with blind boxes, and to the left of centre, there is an original chamfered single-light window. The central gable features a 3/6 sash window.
The south-west gable-end includes a single light and a 4-light window on the ground floor, as well as a 3-light window on the first floor, both with stone mullions and drip moulds. The basement has a blocked 2-light mullion window. The interior is reputed to have been altered.
